Telescope & Observing Skills
Learn to observe the sky with the naked eye, small and medium size amateur telescopes. Targets include both near and deep sky objects.
- Celestial Coordinate System
- Star Hopping
- Maintain observing log of planets and deep sky objects viewed
- moon & planets
- Messier Objects (clusters, nebulae, galaxies, etc.)
- Sketch or photograph images
- Star Parties
- Hold at least 2 star parties to share observations with others

Telescope Lab
This course includes hands-on experience using an amateur telescope to find and observe planets and deep sky objects. A variety of viewing aids, including a Celestron Nextar 130mm SLT telescope , are at our disposal for scheduled and spontaneous stargazing.
At least 2 public stargazing events will be held where students will teach others their observing skills.
